New Online Digs for the PlayStation 3
Sony unveils the new official European online home for the PS3, where wanna-be owners can get an overview of what to expect from the console.
It's Friday, 17 November, and you've just come home after battling your way through angry gamers who weren't able to secure a PlayStation 3. Your wallet is significantly lighter than it was when you left home, but it's inconsequential, because you got one. "This is living," you think to yourself. Or at least that's how Sony's vision goes.
The company revealed the official slogan for the PlayStation 3 today - the aforementioned "This is living", as reported last week by Kikizo - and delivered the official site too, which gives would-be owners a bounty of information about the console.
Included is the confirmation that the 60 GB model of the console will not come with an HDMI cable - just like in the US. But this isn't as devastating as some had thought.
Sony confirmed to Kikizo that both movies and games would be playable in 1080p through component cables. The recently publicised statement that the HDMI cable would be required for watching Blu-ray movies in 1080p, seen on the US PlayStation 3 site, is simply a caveat to do with potential anti-piracy technology.
The site also confirms that the PlayStation 3 will be "fully compatible" with PSone and PlayStation 2 games.
You may have noticed that the PS logo on the Dual Shock has morphed into a button on the wireless PlayStation 3 pad. Sony says this PS button will be used to turn the PlayStation 3 on and off, and it'll also take you to the "home menu" - presumably the equivalent of the Xbox 360 dashboard.
The PlayStation 3 will be released in Europe on 17 November. You can find out about the PlayStation 3 at its new online home.
