Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six Get New Digs
Ubisoft continues on its path to becoming one of the biggest massively multiplatform publishers around, pushing two from its stable to Wii and PSP.
There was a time when Ubisoft garnered little attention in the games industry, but with mega-franchises now on the roster, the company is one of the biggest hitters around. Part of the reason for this is the company's gusto in bringing its games to more and more platforms, which is exactly what's happening to the new Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six games.
According to an IGN report, Ubisoft is working on a Wii version of Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Considering that it's already a multiplatform game, this isn't too surprising, but what is convenient is that the game will be there on day one.
Not surprisingly, the Wii version will be more like the current-gen iterations, originating, as it is, from the same build as the GameCube and PlayStation 2 editions. Ubisoft will, however, reportedly mould the gameplay around the Wii remote and nunchuck.
Also coming to yet another platform is Rainbow Six Vegas, which has been confirmed for a PSP outing this Christmas, in addition to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions already coming. The game is being moved over to Sony's handheld at Ubisoft new studio in Quebec City, Canada.
Rather than a direct port, the PSP version of Rainbow Six Vegas is more of a supporting chapter. It stars two new characters, both of whom you'll play as during the parallel storyline. The gameplay has also been build with the limitations of the PSP in mind. There is, of course, local WiFi multiplayer, but Ubisoft has added online modes too.
