Dead Rising Fastest Yet on 360
Capcom's zombies-in-a-mall gorefest is now the fastest selling Xbox 360 game ever in the UK.
The buzz Dead Rising started building after it was shown off a year ago at the Tokyo Game Show was the first indication that Capcom was on to something big. The zombie thriller shuffled into stores in the US in August, and Capcom shipped half a million copies in just a fortnight. Now the company has confirmed that Britons, too, are wild for the undead.
In a week that saw competition from several other new Xbox 360-only games, Dead Rising handily took the top spot on the weekly UK game sales chart. And it did it with such ease that industry watcher Chart Track has confirmed the game had the best opening yet of any Xbox 360 game.
What makes the game's impressive showing that much more remarkable is that it's a Japanese developed game. Until now, the Xbox 360 has been dominated by games made in the West. And Ninety-Nine Nights, one of the most hyped in-house Japanese-developed games for the Xbox 360, was something of a flop.
Capcom has clearly seen that there's success to be found making games for Western sensibilities. Next it is melding third-person action with arctic temperatures and alien beasties in Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions, also exclusive to the Xbox 360.
