Psychonauts Rises on Steam
Will the critically lauded game finally find broad success on the download service? We will see soon enough.
It's always puzzling when critics and the public disagree strongly. Take Psychonauts, by Tim Schafer and his team at Double Fine, as an example. For whatever reason, the game just didn't hit the kind of numbers you would expect for one with such glowing reviews. At least publisher Majesco can't be faulted for not trying.
The company announced this week that it's teaming up with Valve to release Psychonauts, Advent Rising and the BloodRayne games through Valve's digital delivery service, Steam.
Psychonauts will only arrive in October, but the others are available right now, priced between $10 and $20.
Schafer, the man behind classics such as Grim Fandango and Full Throttle, has made it something a mission to push Psychonauts into as many hands as possible.
Earlier this year he rallied support to get the game included in Microsoft's list of Xbox games playable on the Xbox 360. As of now, though, it's still sitting on the sidelines as one of the many games not yet on Microsoft's 300-strong line-up of backward compatible titles.
