Nintendo Opens Wii to All
Report suggests that like the DS, the Wii will allow you to play games from anywhere in the world.
Good news if you're planning to import a lot of Wii games from Japan or the US - Nintendo has decided against region encoding for its new console, meaning that you'll be able to play games bought anywhere in the world on your Wii.
The news comes by way of Wired's Joel Johnson, who spoke with Nintendo's Perrin Kaplan about the console's restriction measures.
Though Nintendo has never had region lockouts in place on its handhelds, until now you've been stuck with the console games in your territory.
According to the report, publishers will still be able to decide to impose these controls if they want to, by "flicking a switch", but Nintendo has confirmed that it won't be tethering any of its games to specific regions.
This is the same strategy Sony is using for the PlayStation 3. The Xbox 360 also makes it optional for publishers, but in this case most have chosen to do so, and only a handful of titles, mostly from Asia, have dropped it.
