Virtua Tennis 3 Joins Full HD Club
The new game from Sega is just the second to be confirmed to come with 1080p video or what Sony likes to call Full HD.
Sega appears to be the first developer outside of Sony itself that has managed to get games running in so-called full HD, according to a new report.
At a recent game demonstration in Japan, reported on by 1Up, Sega was showing off Virtua Tennis 3 running in full HD - or 1080p. This means the picture has 1,080 vertical lines that are all traced sequentially - known as progressive scan in HD parlance.
The PlayStation 3 is the only system in the next generation that is capable of full HD. The Xbox 360 maxes out at 720p or 1080i (where every other line is traced in an interlaced fashion), while the Wii doesn't support HD at all.
Since the unveiling of the PlayStation 3, Sony has enjoyed pointing out that only its new system can do 1080p, but until now developers have struggled with the enormous amounts of data that need to be shifted to achieve this.
And it's because of this that until now, as Kikizo reported recently the only game running in full HD was Sony's own Gran Turismo HD - a tech demo designed to show off the system's horsepower. Developer Insomniac is reportedly hoping to get Resistance: Fall of Man running in full HD by the time it launches later this year in the US.
