Rockstar Goes Retro for L.A. Noire
New game coming from the man behind The Getaway. Take that how you will.
The name Team Bondi may not be familiar to most people - not surprising, since it's a new games outfit - but its members include Brendan McNamara, previously of Sony's Getaway team. And with that part of his career now behind him, McNamara is swapping locations, switching London for Los Angeles, in a new next-generation game for Rockstar.
The Australian developer's first game is L.A. Noire, described by publisher Rockstar as "an interactive detective story set in the classic noir period of the late 1940s."
The designers are promising to do right what so many others have in the past have done wrong, that is, to fully meld movies and games. How? According to the press release, at least, the game is being built around a strong story that involves film noir standards such as grizzly deaths, police corruption, and a gritty undercurrent tying it all together.
That's about it, at the moment, though. Rockstar and Team Bondi are being skimpy with details on L.A. Noire, but an official trailer is expected at the game's official site by 5 October.
