Capcom Denies RE5 Exclusive to 360
Do not believe everything you hear on the internets, no matter how much you want to believe it.
The Tokyo Game Show has come and gone and Capcom can rest easy, knowing that it had some of the most popular games at the show. One game, though, was suspiciously absent - Resident Evil 5.
The next instalment in the survival horror bellwether series is scheduled to arrive next year, and still it was nowhere to be seen. And if you believe the talk on the web, that's because Capcom has a big announcement coming soon.
Eurogamer reports that Xbox Japan boss Takashi Sensui refused to shoot down a recent upsurge in speculation that Resident Evil 5, which has been announced for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, would be coming out instead only for Microsoft's console.
Sensui did not respond directly when asked about the rumours, saying only: "All I can say is we are very good friends with [Resident Evil 5 producer Keiji] Inafune."
But, as is so often the case, speculating based on such non-specific comments can be misleading. A representative for Capcom told Kikizo that it was "extremely unlikely" that Resident Evil 5 would become an Xbox 360 exclusive.
With the rumours ostensibly debunked, the real reason for the game not being at the Tokyo Game Show would thus appear to be down not to some backdoor deal but rather simply to the game not being ready to show at such a public event.
