Doom, Sensi Soccer Head to Live Arcade
Whether you're into old shooters or old football games, you'll find what you want on the Xbox Live Arcade soon. New screens.
As part of the brouhaha at X06 this week in Barcelona, Microsoft announced a few new additions to its popular Xbox Live Arcade - one, a classic shareware game that helped birth the first-person shooter genre, and another an equally revered football game regarded by many as still one of the most fun around.
In the first instance, we're of course referring to Id's mighty shooter Doom, which got a sneaky release on Wednesday on the Xbox Live Arcade.
The game brings the original four-chapter story mode, and you'll be able to play cooperatively or competitively in 4-way multiplayer over Xbox Live. The graphics have received a partial upgrade, including smoother textures and support for 1080i HD.
The other big announcement is Codemasters' beloved bigheaded football game, Sensible World of Soccer.
The game is said to be a "true sequel" to the 1994 hit and includes the full, 20-season career mode and online play over Xbox Live. And if you want to fully immerse yourself in your childhood, you'll be able to forgo the 720p spruced up graphics and play the game in the blocky style that endeared it to so many people a decade ago.
Sensible World of Soccer is in development at Codemasters and should be out on the Xbox Live Arcade this winter.
