Guitar Hero II Rocks the Xbox 360
Beware the microtransactions. RedOctane is bringing its rifftastic series to the 360. First screens inside.
In yet more evidence that not all internet gossip is claptrap, publisher RedOctane has announced that its cult hit Guitar Hero series is coming to the Xbox 360.
Though this is the first time the series will be on the Xbox 360, on paper, it already seems like this version of Guitar Hero II definitive one. In addition to the full experience of rhythm, lead and bass guitar tracks PlayStation 2 owners will get, Xbox 360 owners will also be able to download new songs and use the new Guitar Hero X-Plorer controller.
That extra stuff, though, won't come free. One of the most appealing aspects of the Xbox Live platform for RedOctane is the infrastructure already in place for microtransactions.
"We believe there is no better title to feature micro-transactions than a music game like Guitar Hero II, where the content is the basis of your experience," says Dusty Welch of RedOctane. "The relationship with the Xbox Live Marketplace creates endless possibilities for exclusive content."
Guitar Hero II is out on the PlayStation 2 in November. It's not clear yet when the Xbox 360 version and its new controller will arrive.
