Epic Boss Rains Blows on Sony
When does the next generation start? Mark Rein and Sony have very different ideas on the issue.
PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360? To many, it's one of the more pressing questions at the moment. In its inimitable manner, Sony has preened that the next-generation doesn't start until it says so. The boss of shooter Gears of War studio Epic disagrees.
"Sony says the next generation starts when they say so. I say, that's bullshit," Epic's Mark Rein said at this week's GDC London event, as reported by Next Generation. "Gears of War is the first second-generation game for Xbox 360 and it looks very fine. You will never see launch titles that look this good."
Looking good is one thing, but there have been concerns that the game may not have enough content. Rein scuppered talk that Gears of War clocks in at just 10 hours, confirming that, first time through, most people will take "at least 12 hours".
Gears of War has been in the headlines again after a big presence at Microsoft's recent X06 conference in Barcelona. But events like these are perhaps not giving the game enough credit, thinks Rein.
"We've shown this game quite a few times," he said, "but we are trying to counteract all the hype now because we want people to know there is a lot in there that hasn't been seen before. People will get this home and find a lot of surprises."
You'll be able to see for yourself what those surprises are when Gears of War comes out for Xbox 360 only on 17 November.
