Yoshi's Island DS Set for Autumn Release
The lovable dino is bringing his beautiful new world to the DS soon - and it is about time.
It's been a while since there was a real blockbuster on the DS, not that it has necessarily harmed the console, which is still doing well on the back of more accessible fare. But for those looking for new stuff to try, Nintendo is putting final touches on Yoshi's Island DS.
As you may have guessed from the title, this is the spiritual successor to the similarly named Super NES game, which parlayed its unique art style into mainstream success. The DS game hangs on to the conventions introduced for the first game, meaning you'll still be gobbling up enemies and playing with dinosaur eggs.
The story is concerned with a mysterious floating castle and the disappearance of kids from the world. Baby Mario, Baby Peach, Baby Wario and Baby DK set off to save the kids and find missing Baby Luigi at the same time.
The game uses a similar graphical style to its SNES counterpart and stretches across the DS's twin screens. As you gather new baby characters, you'll have access to new powers. The game structure is reminiscent, on paper, of New Super Mario Bros. Getting through levels is only the beginning, as there are coins, stars and more strewn throughout the game.
Yoshi's Island DS will be out for the DS in America on 15 November, and it's currently scheduled for release across Europe this December.
