PS3 Oblivion Content Bound for 360, PC
Bethesda is aiming to get the extra Knights of the Nine campaign on to Xbox 360 and PC at some point.
Would-be PlayStation 3 owners were smug in the knowledge that the definite version of hit RPG Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion would be available only on their platform of choice. That is true - for a while, at least.
The new content that is being added to the PlayStation 3 release of the game will also be coming to the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game, series developer Bethesda's Todd Howard told IGN in a recent interview.
When asked whether the new campaign that has been added to the PlayStation 3 version will also hit the current editions, Howard said: "We always aim to have all our content available across all platforms, so that is our goal."
Howard admitted that the PlayStation 3 version does improve on the game Xbox 360 and PC owners have been playing (non-stop, in some cases) for the last six months.
"The PS3 is benefiting from us continuing to develop our core technology that drives all our Elder Scrolls games. Some of that is noticeable on the screen - like all the new graphic shaders - and some isn't," he said.
An example of the less obvious improvements is how graphical detail fades as you look further into the distance. Thanks to better graphics shaders, the blending is more seamless.
A minor disappointment is that despite the hard drive coming standard with all PlayStation 3s, the game will not use the hard drive any more than it already does on the hard drive-optional Xbox 360.
Howard also said he was pleased with how downloadable content has fared on the Xbox 360. He added that Sony's network plans were still "a little fuzzy", but he said Bethesda is looking to make new stuff available for download to the PlayStation 3 edition too.
