Epic Scuppers Talk of Gears of War Demo
If you want to try out the angry-space-marines shooter, you are going to have to buy the whole damn thing.
Some games have reaped great rewards from demos on Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace. Just look at the buzz surrounding Capcom's Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions. But Gears of War is not going to be joining the demo club, despite what Microsoft may have you believe.
Earlier this week, the British Xbox.com site hosted an image that teased with a dog tag image implying there was a Gears of War demo coming to Live. There was a lot of excitement (and some confusion) for a while, but that's all died down now that Epic, the game's developer, has stepped in to clear up the issue in a post on its message board.
"Just saw the dog tag image with the "Microsoft points". It just isn't true," Epic's Mark Rein said in the post. "There is no demo coming out before the game ships and I have no idea if we'll do one after the game ships or not. Right now there are no plans to do one as I said earlier in this thread. I have asked Microsoft to take that image down."
With no Halo 3 to combat the launch of the PlayStation 3 (and to a lesser extent the Wii) Gears of War is being positioned as Microsoft's big game for this year. The game arrives on 7 November in the US (10 days before the PS3 launch) and on 17 November across Europe, in both regular and collector's editions.
