Need For Speed Storms to the Front
EA's latest racer bumps Pro Evolution Soccer 6 down a spot in its first weekend.
After just a week on top, Konami's new football game Pro Evolution Soccer 6 has been unceremoniously booted from the premier position by the new game in a series that's no stranger to the head of the chart: Need For Speed.
It was close, though, as Need For Speed: Carbon inched ahead of Pro Evolution Soccer 6 by a mere 1,000 units. In fact, the game opened lower than Need For Speed: Most Wanted did last year.
Things are looking good for Rockstar, however, which will be pleased to be in the news for selling games rather than for creating controversy. Canis Canem Edit - that's Bully, if you didn't catch the name change - is still near the top and it's joined this week by the PSP-exclusive Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
The previous PSP game in the Grand Theft Auto series helped the portable gain a foothold in the UK last year, and Sony will be hoping for a similar boost this year, faced as it is with the still-strong (and strangely barren at the moment) DS. Nintendo is holding out on the portable as it prepares to release its Wii worldwide, starting later this month in the US.
The Top 10 games for the week ending 4 November, as determined by Chart Track, are below:
- Need For Speed: Carbon (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (Konami)
- FIFA 07 (EA)
- The Sims: Pets (EA)
- Canis Canem Edit (Rockstar)
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (Rockstar)
- Football Manager 2007 (Sega)
- Splinter Cell: Double Agent (Ubisoft)
- Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War - Dark Crusade (THQ)
- Scarface: The World Is Yours (Vivendi)
