Sony Allays Euro PS3 Release Fears
Forget what you may have heard - Sony is still confident about hitting its March target.
The PlayStation 3 seems to be everywhere this week. The console launched in Japan over the weekend amid something of a media frenzy, and it's bound for more of the same in the US on Friday. Europeans, however, won't see Sony's new console until next year, and to add to this, there were fears last week that even that would be difficult for the company to pull off. Now Sony is allaying those fears.
"We are still very much on track for a March launch in Europe," Sony's Nick Sharples said.
The comment was meant to calm an increasingly uneasy European audience that had been spooked by comments Sony's Phil Harrison made in an interview with the Official PlayStation Magazine.
"Given that all of our previous statements about launching in Europe simultaneously with the US and Japan turned out not to be the case, I would not like to make any definitive statements on that," Harrison said in the interview, as reported by ThreeSpeech.
The PlayStation 3 comes in two flavours in Japan and the US, though only the more expensive, 60 GB model has been confirmed. Harrison told Official PlayStation Magazine that people placing pre-orders aren't showing as much interest in the 20 GB model, which also lacks WiFi support.
