EBay Hammers PS3 Auctions
Auction site says it will introduce yet another obstacle for Europeans eager to get hold of Sony's new console.
Consider it the new rule for hardware launches: if there aren't enough consoles to go around, all eyes turn to eBay, where profiteers are all too willing to flop hard-found systems for cold cash. But the popular auction site has thrown a wrench in the works, sending out notice that it's going to start pulling auctions for the PlayStation 3 in Europe.
The statement from eBay, relayed by MCV, comes as yet another blow to Europeans eager to get their hands on the PlayStation 3 early.
"We wanted to let you know about some restrictions that will be placed on pre-sales of the Sony PlayStation 3 console and games," reads the statement. "To protect the whole eBay community, sellers will not be permitted to list PlayStation 3 consoles and games on eBay.co.uk until the authorised European pre-sales period begins in February 2007."
The company also says that once February arrives, you'll only be able to auction consoles bought in the European Union.
A quick scan of eBay's UK arm shows that the new policy has yet to be enforced, as there are currently several PlayStation 3s available. The going price is between £600 and £800.
