Gears of War Grinds Up Britons
The new shooter is now the second-fastest selling Microsoft game ever. The DS is doing pretty well too.
Emergence Day has come and gone and the rough men from Gears of War have managed to see off not only the Locust Horde but also Need for Speed: Carbon and the rest of the top-sitters on the UK chart.
It wasn't even close. The heavily hyped shooter sold so well this weekend that it's now the second-fastest selling Microsoft game ever - only Halo 2 was faster.
The big football games are still locked in terrible battle. This week it's FIFA 07 that's on top, as Pro Evolution Soccer 6 dropped a few places.
You wouldn't notice it from looking at the Top 10 list below, but the DS has been on a tear of late.
There haven't been many big new releases for the system but a deliberate and well-executed ad campaign - and good word of mouth too, we'd imagine - have pushed the DS into the public consciousness. There are four games exclusive to the DS in the Top 10 and 15 DS games in the Top 40.
The Top 10 games for the week ending 18 November, as determined by Chart Track, are below:
- Gears of War (Microsoft)
- Need For Speed: Carbon (EA)
- WWE SmackDown Vs Raw 2007 (THQ)
- FIFA 07 (EA)
- The Sims: Pets (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (Konami)
- Call Of Duty 3 (Activision)
- Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (LucasArts)
- Bratz: Forever Diamondz (THQ)
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (Rockstar)
