Game On Exhibit Grabs Next-Gen Consoles
The Wii, Xbox 360 and, yes, the PlayStation 3 will all be installed at the London exhibit this week.
Visitors have been attracted to the Game On exhibit running at London's Science Museum to connect with gaming's past and look back at the way games were. Starting this week, they'll also be able to consider gaming's future.
On Wednesday, 29 November, the exhibit will play host to all three new consoles from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. For wanna-be owners of the PlayStation 3 in particular this is a chance to get a taste of what's to come months before everyone else, since Sony has pushed back the European launch of its new console until next March at the earliest.
There's more than just the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii to see at Game On. The exhibit takes an in-depth look at the culture, technology, and history of video games over the last 40-odd years, starting with 1962's Space War and passing through every major epoch in games since.
"Visitors will now be able to see and play all three of the platforms which will dominate the future of video gaming," says the Science Museum's Gaetan Lee. "The Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii will all be in Game On, plugged in and ready to play. Visitors can experience the graphics, interactivity and intensity that are to form the next stage of gaming's technological and cultural development."
Game On is running at the Science Museum in Kensington until February 2005. You can find out more about the exhibit at www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/gameon.
