Need For Speed Touted as Xmas No. 1
EA's bafflingly popular racing series is again being eyed as the game to beat this Christmas.
December means many things in the UK, like Christmas lights and crowded street and year-end parties that go on a bit too long. Another regular feature is the battle for the top game for Christmas, and the bookmakers have weighed in with their favourites.
The Christmas No. 1 is just that - the best selling game in the last week before Christmas, rather than the best selling game of the year. This year's favourite, Need For Speed: Carbon, should be familiar to many people already, because the series has been in this position for the last two years.
That's not much of a surprise given how many systems the game is out for. Ditto for FIFA 07, which comes in at No. 2. What is interesting is that Paddy Power bookmakers have the 18-rated Gears of War in the third spot, with 10/1 odds of taking the honours on 23 December.
So which game is going to take it? And will the Wii and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess disrupt things? Christmas shoppers will be deciding this over the coming weeks.
