FIFA Scores as DS, Wii Surge
Link leads the Wii charge, but a too-small installed base means he falls short of the throne.
The headlines sang the virtues of the Wii last week but it was EA's dependable juggernaut FIFA that ended up on top of the charts again.
Still, things went well for Nintendo. The Wii ended the weekend with the best opening yet for a console in the UK and some of the games did well too - especially considering that the family friends Wii Sports was packed in with each console.
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was the unsurprising victor among the Wii crowd, with two-thirds of new Wii owners picking up a copy. This was good enough for it to come in fifth overall, despite a vastly smaller potential audience. Another Top 10 finisher was Wii Play, a minigame collection that also comes with a second Wii remote.
Other Wii games that made it into the Top 40 this week included Red Steel in 19th place and Rayman Raving Rabbids at No. 30.
Nintendo has even more to be happy about. Even with attention turning to the Wii and the other consoles, the DS is gaining more momentum. There are 14 DS games in the Top 40 this week, including Dr Kawashima's Brain Training - a game that was released as far back as June and hasn't left the Top 20 since.
The Top 10 games for the week ending 2 December, as determined by Chart Track, are below:
- FIFA 07 (EA)
- Need For Speed: Carbon (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (Konami)
- Call of Duty 3 (Activision)
- Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo)
- The Sims: Pets (EA)
- WWE SmackDown Vs Raw 2007 (THQ)
- Gears Of War (Microsoft)
- Wii Play (Nintendo)
- Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (LucasArts)
