Microsoft Bumps Halo 3 Beta Options
How hard is it going to be to play Halo 3 this spring? Not very, by the looks of things.
There's no doubt that Halo 3 is going to be one of the biggest games of the year and the open beta test due this spring should garner more than a little interest. To fuel this build up to the launch, Microsoft is playing something of a game with would-be beta testers too, dangling more and more options for them to get into the trial.
In December Microsoft began an online sign-up campaign where people could register to get into the beta at various community sites in Europe or at the official Halo 3 site in the US. This week the company announced another two ways for Xbox 360 owners to snag a spot.
You can either buy a copy of Crackdown (though you'll need an Xbox Live Gold account too) or you can play Halo 2 for three hours and then be one of the first 13,333 people to register at www.halo3.com.
Microsoft said this Rule of Three campaign would run from 1-3 February in the US. Details for non-US regions will be released soon.
Many people expect Halo 3 to be out this autumn though Microsoft has yet to confirm a release timeframe. The company has been pushing the game into the spotlight since late last year already, releasing documentaries, trailers and the soon-to-be released beta test. The game follows Master Chief as he brings the Halo trilogy to a conclusion in a final battle with the Covenant.
