EA Trio Dominates UK Chart
The publishing giant's top franchises steamroll their way into post-Christmas shopping baskets.
With the heady days of Christmas lying crumpled in the trash, things are beginning to settle on the UK sales chart, and it is EA that is getting all the attention, as its big franchises continue to dominate.
FIFA 07 and Need For Speed: Carbon pick up their duel right where it's been for the last few weeks, while the latest Sims 2 expansion pack can't help but be popular thanks to the massive installed base of the game proper.
In the absence of big new releases multiplatform games are the logical winners, making it all the more interesting to see three singleplatform games in the Top 10. Of the trio, Canis Canem Edit (nee Bully) is the best finisher this week, no doubt bolstered by a big push from stores.
Gears of War is still the best-selling Xbox 360 game. That honour comes under threat this week as Capcom releases Lost Planet: Extreme Condition after eight months of demos.
The Top 10 games for the week ending 6 January, as determined by Chart Track, are below:
- FIFA 07 (EA)
- Need For Speed: Carbon (EA)
- The Sims 2: Pets (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (Konami)
- Canis Canem Edit (Rockstar)
- Call of Duty 3 (Activision)
- Cars (THQ)
- Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (LucasArts)
- New Super Mario Bros (Nintendo)
- Gears of War (Microsoft)
