EA Kicks Off Champions League in March
Guide your favourite team to victory on the continent. Sorry PS3 - no love for you.
The real-world kick-off of the knockout rounds of the Champions League is only a couple months away, and while the players are eyeing that particular prize, EA is firmly fixed on your living room. The company is again preparing the official game for the tournament.
UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 is planned for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PSP, PC and mobiles in March. Despite the timing, which coincides with the launch of the PlayStation 3, the game is not coming to Sony's new system.
The game is built around recreating the tournament as accurately as possible, and that means allowing you play through the full tournament, from qualification all the way through to the final.
There's something new for the Xbox 360 version too. EA is bringing in a trading card element in Ultimate Team mode. These are virtual cards that let you trade players, team staff, player stats, stadiums, and even gameplay tactics. You can use these gameplay cards during matches to give you a leg up over your opponent or simply assemble the team you always wanted.
The Xbox 360 version also comes with a new engine - presumably the one from FIFA 07, which was also developed by EA's studio in Vancouver.
