Magazine Outs Guitar Hero: '80s Edition
No word yet from Activision but EGM says it's so.
Glance at the sales figures for this past Christmas and one fact becomes clear: gamers want to rock. Guitar Hero II was one of the biggest games in the US in December and it didn't do badly on this side either. Now Activision is reportedly parlaying that success into a third game that looks back to a more hedonistic time.
According to EGM, by way of sister site 1UP, RedOctane is putting together a new game called Guitar Hero: '80s Edition. Despite Guitar Hero II gracing both PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360, this one will reportedly come just for the PS2.
That's about all that's known right now, as publisher Activision has yet to formally announce the game.
Another sequel in the series seems a no-brainer. Guitar Hero grew a cult audience that exploded this Christmas for the sequel. Guitar Hero II debuted in the Top 20 in the UK in November but more impressive was its performance in the US, where it sold 805,000 copies in December and a total of 1.3 million copies during 2006, according to NPD Group.
For now, though, what is sure for the series is that Guitar Hero II is coming to the Xbox 360, and it's due sometime this spring.
