Lost Planet Looks to Devour Dead Rising
The zombie thriller was Capcom's first big Xbox 360 success but Lost Planet seems like it will be bigger still, shipping 1 million units since December.
It looks like Capcom has another hit on its hands. Following the success of Dead Rising, which recently shipped its millionth copy, the company said on Wednesday that it has shipped - not sold - a million units of its snowbound shooter Lost Planet: Extreme Condition.
Lost Planet producer Keiichi Inafune recently told Kikizo about the risks Capcom was taking in making a shooter - a genre that isn't traditionally popular in Japan. Inafune also confirmed that the game would remain exclusive to the Xbox 360.
By virtue of its genre and its platform, the game is further evidence of the increasing importance of Western tastes in dictating the sort of games that get made.
Lost Planet shipped a million copies in less than a month after its Japanese release. Most recently it had a strong debut in the UK, topping the weekly sales chart amid a battery of online and TV advertising.
