Bethesda Makes Shivering Isles Official
First screens from the full expansion, due this spring.
Not wanting to leave the outing of its latest expansion totally up to magazines cover stories, Bethesda officially announced this week that it is working on the first full expansion to its massively singleplayer RPG Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Called Shivering Isles, the expansion grows the world of Oblivion, opening up a new area that is under the remit of a deity named Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness. It seems that Sheogorath's neighbourhood is under threat and it's up to you to do the defending.
There's a meaty 30 hours of gameplay here, which you're free to tackle with a brand new character if you choose. Veterans of Oblivion will likely be more interesting in bringing their existing characters into the realm. The new area you travel is actually split in two, which tap in to either the dementia or the madness of its overlord.
"The world we've created for Shivering Isles is unlike anything you've seen or played in Oblivion and we can't wait for folks to play it," reckons Bethesda's Vlatko Andonov.
Look for Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles to arrive on Xbox 360 and PC this spring. The content is reportedly due on PlayStation 3 too, according to CVG, though it's not clear whether it will be a separate download or whether it will be included in the PS3 version of Oblivion.
