Gears of War Outselling Halo
Another high as Epic's shooter becomes the fastest selling original Xbox game ever.
Master Chief is back in the Xbox saddle later this year when Halo 3 arrives to finish the fight, but for now it seems that all Xbox 360 owners care about is Gears of War.
Microsoft's other shooter was released just 10 weeks ago and already it has sold more than 3 million copies, according to the latest numbers from the company.
Gears of War has sold faster than any original Xbox game before, and this latest burst of sales pushes Marcus & Co.'s futuristic stop-'n'-pop shooter into some lofty company, something all the more impressive because it is an original property.
The game's online options aren't as plentiful as other purpose-built multiplayer games, but fans seem to be enjoying themselves. The two new maps, released a fortnight ago, have been downloaded 750,000 times already, and 1.5 million pieces of content have been downloaded in total since launch.
Neither Microsoft nor Epic, the game's developer, has yet confirmed a sequel, but given the latest figures it's only a matter of time until they do.
