Ubisoft Boosts Double Agent for PS3
Nothing much outside of a good dose of elbow grease and a new character class for multiplayer.
Sam Fisher's escapades in Splinter Cell: Double Agent are coming to the PlayStation 3 later this year. Xbox 360 owners may be wondering whether this one will offer anything they haven't already seen, leading Ubisoft to make its case for the PS3 version of the game.
The biggest change double-dipping players will notice is that the multiplayer, which brings a couple new maps, also now features a new female spy.
"We really liked the idea because it really embraces the fact that the spy should be cat-like, very nimble," said Mathieu Hector, producer of the PS3 version at Ubisoft's studio in Annecy. "And for players like me, it's always more pleasant to follow the acrobatics of a female character, supple and elegant, than those of a born-to-kill-guy!"
Hopefully more appealing to everyone are the tilt-sensing controls, which have been sprinkled throughout the game, such as in swimming and lock picking.
Ubisoft is fully aware that Xbox Live is a more robust platform for online play, which is why the multiplayer bits of the game have been in testing already since November. "We are 100% confident to provide a quality online experience," said Hector.
Apart from these additions, Ubisoft has been spending most of the time since the Xbox 360 release of the game last autumn fine-tuning the experience. You'll be able to find out how things turned out when the game arrives for PS3 this spring.
