Manhunt 2 Bloodies Wii, More
Rockstar surprises by announcing a sequel for its bloody action game for the Wii and Sony systems.
The Wii is only months old and already it is continuing Nintendo's image as a kid-friendly provider of entertainment. The early games are for the most part happy, light-hearted and torture-free. Rockstar is looking to change that last one.
The company said on Tuesday that it is working on a new Manhunt game for the Wii, the PlayStation 2 and the PSP.
Development duties have passed from Rockstar North, which coaxed so much bile from the mainstream with the first game, to the company's newly opened studio in London. The Wii version is being made a separate studio in Toronto.
"With Manhunt 2 we have tried to create a game that stays close to the original concept of chilling suspense and stealth, whilst pushing the game design and storytelling forward," said Rockstar's Sam House.
The original Manhunt garnered shrill headlines from hysterical media types who caught wind of the blood-soaked premise of the game.
Manhunt 2 is the latest example of a technological hierarchy that has developed, where games not destined for the high-end Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 are put out on the relatively underpowered PlayStation 2, Wii and PSP.
Manhunt 2 is due this summer. You can visit the official site here.
