Crysis Brings Respect for Aging PCs
So don't worry if you can't upgrade just yet.
The problem with riding the bleeding edge is that sometimes you bleed more than others, and one of those times is coming soon for PC gamers.
German developer CryTek's new game Crysis is primed to be the looker for 2007, but that only comes with a wallet-busting commitment on your part. Luckily, CryTek is promising that even those with older systems will be able to experience all Crysis has to offer, as CryTek's Cervat Yerli recently told Next Generation:
"We believe clearly that Crysis will be enjoyed by a large audience that dates back to gamers with two- to three-year-old gaming rigs," said Yerli.
Crysis has been designed to take advantage of the Direct X 10 graphics system built into Window Vista, and using that fully requires a very high-end graphics card. Fully aware that not everyone will upgrade to Vista and get a new video card right away, CryTek has built the game with lowlier systems in mind.
"We developed almost all effects to be very scalable for different hardware specs," Yerli said. "Fortunately this is much easier now that we can rely on the existence of hardware shaders."
