Tekken 6 Rages on PS3-Based Arcade
Namco Bandai brings out its big hitter, and it's running on Sony-esque hardware.
Namco Bandai has been making friends with PlayStation 3 owners by giving out Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection for download, prompting many to wonder when the gift horse would get around to announcing the next series instalment. That time would be now.
The company finally did show off Tekken 6, at the AOU arcade show running this week in Tokyo, according to IGN. Heading up development is Katsuhiro Harada, who will serve as director for Tekken 6, just as he did for Tekken 5.
IGN reports that Harada promised to skim off the good stuff from the previous series entries for this new instalment.
The character count has been upped again and includes two new characters: Zafina, a chic woman with arachnoid moves, and an androgynous German character named Leo. A video clip also shows off some of the new locations, which include a Buddhist temple and a battle-ravaged cityscape, and the enhanced character customisation options.
There was a technological surprise too, as Namco Bandai revealed that the arcade version would use hardware based on the PlayStation 3, making a release on Sony's console a near certainty. Previously Namco had worked with Sony on arcade boards based on both of its previous consoles.
