Excite Truck Crashes Leaving FIFA on Top
Slow first week for Nintendo's Excitebike pseudo-successor helps give top spot to EA.
With little in the way of new games to prevent them from doing so, Britons have turned back to what they know, giving EA's FIFA 07 yet another week on top of the UK sales chart.
Excite Truck for Wii
There was one new high profile release in Supreme Commander from THQ, but the combination of the RTS genre of the game and its PC-only availability meant it was little competition for the usual football contenders and the latest Need For Speed game. Also joining this week was new Wii title Avatar: The Legend of Aang, a tie-in to the kids TV show.
For Nintendo though, it was one giant crash for Excite Truck, which barely managed to make it on to the Top 40 chart at all. The game, a spiritual successor to Excitebike (out on Virtual Console last week), swaps bikes for trucks and Wii remote controls. It came in on the charts at No. 36.
Those looking for things to get shaken up may be in luck. Friday sees the release of Crackdown for the Xbox 360. The game is getting good reviews based on its own merits, and it will undoubtedly get a sales boost from the inclusion of the Halo 3 multiplayer beta.
The Top 10 games for the week ending 17 February, as determined by Chart Track, are below:
- FIFA 07 (EA)
- Need For Speed: Carbon (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (Konami)
- Supreme Commander (THQ)
- Little Britain: The Video Game (Mastertronic)
- Avatar: The Legend of Aang (THQ)
- The Sims 2: Pets (EA)
- Battlestations: Midway (Eidos)
- Sega Mega Drive Collection (Sega)
- Lost Planet: Extreme Condition (Capcom)
