First Party PS3 Games Come Cheaper
Europeans will pay more for the hardware but the games will be cheaper - at least for Sony's own stuff.
Days after revealing that the European model of the PlayStation 3 will not support as broad a range of old games as the versions in the US and Japan, Sony has announced that it will make it easier for Europeans to get busy playing its new games.
Boxed first-party PS3 games will sell for £40 (€60 on the continent) in the UK as opposed to the £50 many Xbox 360 games go for. This equates to a VAT-free price of around £34, which is still more than 10 per cent higher than the $60 first-party games go for in the US.
This price is only confirmed for Sony's own games, which include Motorstorm and Resistance: Fall of Man, leaving outside publishers to set their own prices.
Sony also gave the first glimpses at what PS3 owners will be paying for downloaded games such as Blast Factor and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, which will sell for between €1 and €10 - at least for an "introductory" period.
