Final Fantasy XII Leaps Over Crackdown
Fans lined up to meet the makers and helped the game along to a chart victory in the process.
Final Fantasy fans put down their controllers, donned their favourite costumes and headed to HMV on Oxford Street in London on Thursday for a chance to revel in their obsession at the launch party for the latest instalment in the popular RPG series.
Final Fantasy XII executive producer Akitoshi Kawazu and director Hiroshi Minagawa were at the event, shaking hands and signing some of the thousands of copies of the game sold over the weekend.
That series-best debut was enough to push Final Fantasy XII to the top of the Chart Track UK ranking for the week, staving off pressure from the heavily hyped Crackdown for the Xbox 360.
A surprise entry in the Top 10 this week is Grabit's movie-based PC game Bad Boys II, which was helped along by a near-free selling price.
The Top 10 games for the week ending 24 February, as determined by Chart Track, are below:
- Final Fantasy XII (Square Enix)
- Crackdown (Microsoft)
- FIFA 07 (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (Konami)
- Need For Speed: Carbon (EA)
- The Sims 2: Pets (EA)
- Bad Boys II (Grabit)
- The Sims (EA)
- Sega Mega Drive Collection (Sega)
