Diddy Kong Races on to the DS
Rare's Nintendo 64 racer gets online play en route to the portable.
Ex-Nintendo developer Rare may be toiling for Microsoft on such consoles games as Viva Piñata and Perfect Dark Zero for the Xbox 360 but when it comes to handhelds the company still has free rein.
As if to underline the fact, Nintendo announced this week that the Rare-developed mascot racing game Diddy Kong Racing DS would be coming to the portable this spring.
There's a story threaded through the game but what is going to bring in racing fans are the 20 tracks and the full support for online multiplayer. Nintendo 64 owners might get a sense of deja vu, thanks to the game being largely a spruced up version of the original Diddy Kong Racing, though there are new modes and characters to play with.
Diddy Kong Racing will be out for the DS in Europe on 20 April. You can find out more about the game at www.diddykongracing.com.
