Gears Picks Up GDC Awards
Yet more trophies for Epic's hit Xbox 360 shooter.
It's been a good few months for Cliff Bleszinski and his team of developers at Epic Games. Gears of War was a critical darling last autumn and eager Xbox 360 owners snapped it up in their millions. Now the awards are pouring in.
At the Game Developers Choice Awards this week, Gears of War picked up another three awards, including that for Best Game, fending off pressure from other nominees that included Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Wii Sports, Okami and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
It wasn't all about Bleszinski and Co., though, as Nintendo mainstay Shigeru Miyamoto was honoured with a lifetime achievement award while Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov walked away with the First Penguin award for breaking new ground in games.
