Wii Demand Higher Than at Launch
And that's why you can't find them in stores.
Whether you're looking online or in your local game store, the problem is the same: there just aren't any Wiis. Nintendo has noticed and it's trying to fix that, but despite the company's best efforts, the console won't sit still on store shelves.
"We're making as many as we can on a global basis," Nintendo's Robert Saunders said in a telephone interview.
Some sceptics have wondered whether Nintendo is deliberately under-shipping the console in an attempt to build hype, but Saunders said that's categorically not the case.
"Some retailers are saying they're seeing higher demand now than at launch," he said.
The Wii went on sale during November and December, first in North America and Japan and then in Europe. Since then the console has gone on to sell more than 4 million units.
