Dragon Quest Devs on New Wii RPG
Koei shows off its fanciful new game Opoona. First screens and details.
Japanese publisher Koei is rounding up Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest alumni for a new role-playing game for the Wii called Opoona.
Opoona is what Koei calls a lifestyle game. It places you in the silver-and-orange jumpsuit of eponymous lead character Opoona, who is trying to put together some sort of life, find his missing siblings and help his bed-ridden parents.
So how will you do this? First you need to have a job, and to do that you have to earn a license to take up a profession, whether that be rescuer, detective, pop idol or any of the other jobs on offer. You'll also be able to build relationships with your neighbours on the planet of Landroll and generally become a productive member of society.
The game is in development at Japanese studio Arte Piazza, which previously worked on the Dragon Quest series for Enix and the also Natsume's Harvest Moon series. Also confirmed is Hitoshi Sakimoto, who is fresh off handling the music for Final Fantasy XII.
Opoona will be out for the Wii in Japan later this year. Western release dates are not yet decided.
