TT Games Talks Lego Batman
We chat with TT Games director Tom Stone about his new Lego game based on the Dark Knight.
From the beginning the idea behind Lego Star Wars was for the game to be as inclusive as possible - not a hard thing to do when you're working with two of the most well-known brands around. For its next game, TT Games and in-house developer Traveller's Tales are throwing out the lightsabers for batarangs.
Lego Batman: The Videogame is an entirely original game coming in 2008 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS and PC. TT Games, which is funding the game entirely, is considering versions for the older set of consoles too, but as TT Games director Tom Stone told Kikizo, that all depends on where those consoles are at that time.
A story in movie trade paper Variety this week suggested that TT Games had been bought by DC Comics owner Warner. "That's wrong," Stone said. He said TT Games and Traveller's Tales are staying independent.
So what can you expect from Lego Batman? "We're going to do exactly what we did with Lego Star Wars," said Stone. Which is good news for the millions of people who have found themselves getting lost in the Lego Star Wars games.
Somewhat surprisingly, Lego Batman isn't based on any of the movies, TV shows or even specific comic story arcs.
TT Games is working with DC Comics on a completely new storyline that involves The Penguin, The Joker and the infamous Arkham Asylum. What's more, thanks to the deal with DC, Traveller's Tales will be able to dip into Batman's rich history wherever they like.
Though the game is coming to multiple platforms, Stone is insistent that the content is not going to be split up. There will be downloadable content for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, but all of the versions will essentially be the same.
With Star Wars and now Batman in the bag, TT Games' star is clearly on the rise, opening the door to more Lego-based games.
Asked whether TT Games would be teaming up with someone like Marvel soon, Stone joked: "We're talking to a lot of people. You can speculate all you want."
