Tiberium Wars Takes a Commanding Lead
UK chart victory for Command & Conquer 3.
Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm still lead the PlayStation 3's opening charge but the console pair has been made to make way for the return of an old PC favourite.
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars takes the series back to its futuristic roots, where madman Kane and the rest of the familiar cast must now defend against a new alien race of marauders. EA's real-time strategy game has been around (and been successful) for a long time, and that loyal audience helped the latest instalment to another chart topping performance.
Britons haven't lost their love for the PS3, though sales are sharply down on games. Both Resistance and MotorStorm saw their debut weekend sales slashed by two-thirds, but that was still enough to keep bat-man Brian Lara's game at bay.
All this talk of PCs and PS3s has helped to take attention away from Nintendo. The DS was doing particularly well earlier in the year but the best it could manage this week was one DS-exclusive game - Dr Kawashima's Brain Training - at the lower end of the Top 20. Ditto for the Wii, which is being propped up by multiplatform releases in the absence of new fare from Nintendo itself.
