Spidey Crawls to the Top of the Chart
Web-head's multiplatform antics knock Kratos down.
Neither the Spider-Man 3 movie nor the game has been particularly well received by critics but that didn't stop both from going straight to the top over the long weekend.
Activision's video game adaptation of Spider-Man's latest flick knocks God of War II out of the No. 1 spot, a position it held for just one week. Spidey was helped, no doubt, by its being released on all current platforms, as opposed to just the one for the PlayStation 2 actioner.
Evidence of the growing size of new console owners is the preference given to the Xbox 360 version of Spider-Man 3. The Xbox 360 version took 45 per cent of Spider-Man 3 sales, compared to 40 per cent for PS2 and 10 per cent for Wii.
Apart from Spider-Man 3, the best selling new release this week was Final Fantasy III, Square Enix's remake of its 17-year-old NES role-playing game. Final Fantasy III is one of five DS exclusives to make it into the Top 20 for the week.
