Half-Life 2 Decays, Loses Black Box
Don't want Half-Life 2 or Episode One? Tough.
Black Box, Orange Box - can anyone keep track of what exactly is going into each version of Valve's release of Half-Life 2 later this year? The company has made it simpler, bringing everyone to the same level.
Valve's Doug Lombardi told IGN that the Black Box, which would have included Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 and Portal, has been cancelled.
Instead, now PC owners wanting to continue the adventures of Gordon Freeman will need to opt for the Orange Box - the same as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners. This all-in-one package includes Half-Life 2, Episode One, Episode Two, Portal, and Team Fortress 2.
The box comes with three activation codes for Valve's Steam service - one for Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 and Portal; another for Half-Life 2; and a third for Episode One.
"This way a PC Orange Box owner can give away their Half-Life 2 or Episode One unused Steam product codes if they don't need a copy of those games," Lombardi told IGN.
Console owners will also only be able to buy the Orange Box.
Lombardi did not comment on why the company decided to drop the Black Box.
