Spy MMO The Agency Bound for PS3
EverQuest and Untold Legends creator SOE heads into new territory for its first MMO for Sony's console.
While console owners the world over sit on their hands waiting for the improbable announcement of World of Warcraft being ported to the current batch of consoles, Sony is taking matters into its own hands.
The company's online-focussed arm, Sony Online Entertainment, has tapped its Seattle studio for a PlayStation 3 massively multiplayer online game that throws those moldy orcs out into the street.
Forget Lord of the Rings. According to US magazine PSM, via sister site Games Radar, SOE's new game, The Agency, takes pages from movies like Bond, Bourne, 24 and Alias instead.
It appears characters' abilities are inextricably linked with the clothes they're wearing, which means bog-standard army man stuff for the rough-and-tumble bits and sleeker outfits for the stealth approach.
In The Agency, it seems, clothes really do make the man (or the woman).
The two revealed factions in the game break down along similar lines, with the UNITE organization representing the gruff types and Paragon being the covert-ops people.
SOE's Matt Wilson is quoted as saying the designers, "want to make an action, adventure and intrigue game with betrayals, etc... the stuff that hasn't been tapped yet in the genre."
SOE is keeping exact details of the world to itself for now, but it would appear that players won't stray too far from what they know. Already Venice and Prague have been mentioned as locales for play.
According to the sources, The Agency is due out on PS3 towards the end of the year.
