Konami Code at the Ready for Contra IV
The company reaches outside its walls for a developer for the DS sequel.
With naught but SpongeBob, Barbie and other licensed fare to its name, Californian developer WayForward has managed to steer clear of much gamer attention. That could be about to change with the news that the company is working with Konami on a new Contra game for the DS.
Tentatively titled Contra IV, the game is a full sequel to 1992's SNES hit Contra III: The Alien Wars.
Contra III (available on the Wii Virtual Console) lead characters Bill Rizer and Lance Bean are joined by new characters Mad Dog and Scorpion in their fight again Black Viper in this sequel, set two years after the SNES game.
As is befitting of the DS, the gameplay has undergone some tweaking and now includes action and enemies that span both screens. There's also a new accessory to use, the grappling hook, which will let you get to those hard-to-reach spots. And yes, you'll be able to play cooperatively.
Contra IV is coming only to the DS and will be out towards the end of the year.
