Unreal Engine Problems Delay Fatal Inertia PS3
Koei's anti-gravity racer will debut on the 360 instead.
Koei's anti-gravity racer Fatal Inertia was one of the first games announced for the PlayStation 3 and at the time the team expected it to launch with the system. On Tuesday the Japanese publisher finally revealed when the game would be released - on the Xbox 360.
Fatal Inertia will be out for the Xbox 360 sometime during September in the UK, most likely closely following the 11 September launch in the US.
Koei would not comment directly on the reasons for the delay of the PlayStation 3 version, but a source close to the project told Kikizo that it was down to difficulties in getting the Unreal Engine 3.0 middleware working as well on the PlayStation 3 as it does on the Xbox 360.
Unreal Engine 3.0 is a software tool developed by Epic Games that speeds up the development process - all important in the current climate of seven-figure design budgets.
The engine made its debut on the Xbox 360 in Gears of War, which went on to become one of the best-selling and best-reviewed games on Microsoft's system.
For now the developers do not have a firm release goal in mind, though the end of the year is a possibility, according to our source.
