PS3 Price Cut: Will They or Won't They
Retailers says Yes, Sony says No.
The PlayStation 3 has been out for less than a year and yet already people are wondering aloud when the system is going to get a price cut.
A he-said-she-said situation has arisen in the US, where retailers say there is a cut coming while Sony insists there isn't.
A flyer from US retailer Circuit City, shown at Kotaku, showed the PlayStation 3 getting a price cut by 15 July, down from $599 to $499.
Subsequent calls to retailers by GameDaily revealed that this is a retailer-wide move and would become official on 12 July - the day after Sony is due to hold its conference at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.
But the price cut is far from confirmed.
Sony officials in Europe refused to comment on what it called "speculation" that the system's price would be trimmed this month. But company president Ryoji Chubachi went a step further.
He denied that a price drop was imminent, telling Reuters: "At present we have no plans."
