Konami Ponders Metal Gear Solid 4 on 360
Will Sony lose its biggest third-party exclusive this week?
For months armchair analysts and Microsoft proponents have speculated that Metal Gear Solid guru Hideo Kojima's latest game would be coming to the Xbox 360, but there's been little firm evidence to support this - until now.
Speaking to Reuters ahead of the E3 Media & Business Summit this week, Konami's Kazumi Kitaue said that if the PlayStation 3 continues in its slump the company would consider taking the game to more platforms.
"Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps," Kitaue told Reuters.
He added that the price cut announced this week for the PlayStation 3 may not do too much to change the uptake of the console.
"I don't expect a substantial impact," Kitaue said. "With $500, you can buy a personal computer."
On Monday, Sony confirmed that it was trimming the price of its new console, from $599 for the 60 GB model down to $499. The company also revealed a new 80 GB model, which will come with a copy of MotorStorm at first.
The new system, due in August, will reportedly also no longer include the Emotion Engine PlayStation 2 hardware, which until now has been used to play PS2 games. The new system will instead use software emulation, similar to how European PS3s handle older games.
