Rockstar Taps Wii for Table Tennis
But does that mean anything for the chances of seeing Grand Theft Auto IV on Wii?
The gaming world looked on in bemusement when Grand Theft Auto creator Rockstar revealed that its first Xbox 360 game would be based not on the mean streets but on table tennis. Those frowns were transformed to smiles when it turned out that the game was actually quite good. Now Table Tennis is coming to the Wii.
Rockstar said in an announcement on Tuesday that a Wii version of Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis is due later this year.
The game is being ported over to the Wii by Rockstar's studio in Leeds, which is working with Rockstar San Diego, the game's original developer. Rockstar Leeds has recently worked on the Grand Theft Auto PSP games and the portable edition of controversy lightning rod Manhunt 2.
Table Tennis for Wii will include full support for the Wii remote.
What's not clear is whether the game will use the same RAGE game engine that powered the Xbox 360 version.
This software engine is being used to drive the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Grand Theft Auto IV. Were the engine brought over to the Wii, that would leave the door open for a Wii version of Grand Theft Auto IV.
For now, that's speculation and Rockstar refused to commented directly on this possibility.
