Resident Evil 5 Creeps Slowly to Release
Capcom hints at a far off release date for its next thriller.
The only thing attendees at last week's E3 Media & Business Summit got to see of Capcom's latest Resident Evil game was a few seconds of intriguiing video footage. This week the lead developer started to open up a bit more about his high-profile project.
Speaking to Japanese magazine Famitsu, director Jun Takeuchi confirmed that you'll be playing as original series lead character Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 5, according to a synopsis of the report at IGN. There will also be a second playable character - a girl, seen briefly during the E3 trailer.
The game will be keeping several of the elements that made Resident Evil 4 one of the best games of the past two years, including the over-the-shoulder perspective, but Takeuchi is throwing in some new stuff too.
One new feature involves light and how drastic shifts from light-to-dark or dark-to-light can affect your vision. Takeuchi is planning to play on this real-life effect, making you more vulnerable to nasties as you shift between the two.
The brief clip shown at the Santa Monica event last week seemed to show a desolate African town and its zombie-esque inhabitants, but Takeuchi says we can expect creatures that are neither zombies nor like the enemies seen in Resident Evil 4.
The real downer to the interview is the tentative release date. Not only will the game not be here next year, we may need to wait until closer to 2010 for a chance to play it.
